Living Building Workshop

June 07, 2016 - 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Sally & Butch Center for Parks & People

2100 Liberty Heights Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21217

Join the US Green Building Council for a workshop on the potential benefits of the Living Building Challenge!

Imagine a building designed and constructed to function as elegantly and efficiently as a flower, along with true sustainability in our homes, workplaces and neighborhoods.

The Living Building Challenge seeks to make these dreams a reality through a rigorous project certification program comprised of seven performance categories called Petals: Place, Water, Energy, Health and Happiness, Materials, Equity and Beauty. The Living Building Challenge requires Net Zero Water and Net Zero Energy for truly low impact buildings.

Please join USGBC Maryland at the new Sally and Butch Michel Parks and People Foundation's LEED (tracking LEED Platinum) headquarters to explore the Living Building Challenge and how it might be integrated into Baltimore.

The workshop will include an introduction to the challenge, a tour of the center and campus, and an interactive gap analysis to determine how this project could be adapted to meet Living Building Challenge Standards, followed by networking on the green roof.

This workshop will be facilitated by Prescott Gaylord (LBC Ambassador) of Gensler, Zolna Russell of Floura Teeter Landscape Architects and Keith Peiffer of Ziger Snead Architects.

Participants will:

  1. Understand how the LEED rating system was implemented at the Parks and People Headquarters.
  2. Learn about Living Building Challenge principles.
  3. To understand the difference between Living Building Challenge and the LEED Rating System.
  4. To explore how the Petals of the Living Building Challenge might be applied to an existing project.
