April 21, 2021 - 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Connecting the Corridor will tell the story of how the Purple Line corridor has been shaped by racism and the organizing and resilience communities have shown in response. The event will explore how communities along the corridor have been affected by discrimination and urban renewal, as well as how patterns of residential and economic segregation are perpetuated by contemporary policies. The event will feature presentations from community storytellers from Lakeland, Langley Park, Lyttonsville, and Bethesda, who will describe the personal and enduring consequences of the region’s often inequitable development, with lessons for how our community can make sure that the Purple Line is a force for racial equity and not an instrument of displacement. The event will be facilitated by planner and writer Dan Reed, and the Honorable Parris Glendening, former Governor of Maryland, will deliver remarks.
The event will be held via Zoom from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Wednesday, April 21. Register here. Formal invite to follow!
The event is presented by Kaiser Permanente, the Coalition for Smarter Growth, and the Purple Line Corridor Coalition.
