Bowie Solar Co-op Info. Session

February 08, 2017 - 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Bowie City Hall - Room 243

15901 Excalibur Road, Bowie, MD, 20716

Thinking about solar? Attend an upcoming information session to learn more about joining a MD SUN Solar Co-op. Neighbors in Bowie and surrounding Prince George’s County can join the co-op to get assistance with going solar and to save money.

The solar co-op is based on the same principle as buying in bulk, and joining is not a commitment to install panels. Once the group is large enough, the non-profit MD SUN will help the co-op solicit competitive bids from area solar installers. Co-op members will then select a single company to complete all of the installations, and each member will then have the option to purchase or lease panels individually based on the installer’s group rate. By going solar as a group and choosing a single installer, each participant generally saves up to 20% off the cost of their system. For more information and to register for an information session on Feb. 8th, visit www.mdsun.org/bowie. Questions? Contact Kristin Larson at 301-809-3044 or klarson@cityofbowie.org.

World Oceans Day

June 08, 2016

World Oceans Day is the official UN-designated international day of ocean celebration. On June 8th each year, we celebrate the ocean, its importance in our lives, and how we can protect it.

Why celebrate World Oceans Day?

A healthy world ocean is critical to our survival. Every year, World Oceans Day provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve the world’s oceans. Oceans are very important:

  • They generate most of the oxygen we breathe
  • They help feed us
  • They regulate our climate
  • They clean the water we drink
  • They offer a pharmacopoeia of medicines
  • They provide limitless inspiration!

Now each of us can give back

Participate in a World Oceans Day event or activity this year and help protect the ocean for the future! It’s up to each one of us to help ensure that our ocean is healthy for future generations. World Oceans Day allows us to:

  • Change perspective – encourage individuals to think about what the ocean means to them and what it has to offer all of us with hopes of conserving it for present and the future generations.
  • Learn – discover the wealth of diverse and beautiful ocean creatures and habitats, how our daily actions affect them, and how we are all interconnected.
  • Change our ways – we are all linked to, and through, the ocean! By taking care of your backyard and helping in your community, you are acting as a caretaker of our ocean. Making small modifications to your everyday habits will make a difference, and involving your family, friends, and community will benefit our blue planet even more!
  • Celebrate – whether you live inland or on the coast, we are all connected to the ocean. Take the time to think about how the ocean affects you, and how you affect the ocean, and then organize or participate in activities that celebrate our ocean.

National Drive Electric Week 2016

September 10, 2016 to September 18, 2016

Nationwide

National Drive Electric Week, September 10-18, 2016, is a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today's widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more. They are fun to drive, are less expensive and more convenient to fuel than gasoline vehicles, are better for the environment, promote local jobs, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Are you considering going electric? Come talk to owners who have successfully done so.

Started in 2011 as National Plug In Day with the simple idea to hold simultaneous events across the country on the same day, by popular demand we have expanded to an entire week of events and changed the name to emphasize the thing we all want to do: drive electric. We expect National Drive Electric Week 2016 will again grow to include more events in more cities with more drivers reaching out to share the many advantages of driving electric with the public.
